ARCH Camp, Texas A&M

The College of Architecture will be hosting Camp ARCH this summer from July 11th to the 17th.  The Camp is designed to give 9th graders or higher and incoming college freshmen an opportunity to experience the professions of Architect, Constructor and Visual Designer.  Applications and additional information is available at http://camparch.tamu.edu.

Northwestern Scholars

Northwestern State University is sponsoring an Advance Program for young Scholars entering grades 8 through 12.  More information is available at http://advance.nsula.edu or in the Guidance Office.

Parent Seminar

A parent seminar will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 16th at Killeen High School in the Cafeteria from 6:00 – 8:30 pm.  Attend the “How to Earn College Credit in High School” to find out how a student can earn college credit immediately, prepare to take an advance placement test or earn credit that is awarded later.  Refreshments will be available and door prizes will be given away.

Students can pick up information on the Youth Basketball & Peer Leadership Camp which will be at Abrams Physical Fitness Facility on Saturday, February 13th.

Need help completing financial aid forms?  Come to Ellison High School English lab Rm 131 on Thursday, February 25th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Families must bring 2009 tax information, drivers license and social security card, current bank statements, records of untaxed income, current mortgage information, records of business.  If your federal taxes aren’t completed, bring your 2008 W-2’s so you can get an estimate on tax information.  There is no charge for the workshop.

The Military Child Education Coalition is looking for student films and videos.  They are also looking for artwork.  If you are a military dependent, you may enter the contest.  More information is available in the Guidance Office.

Seniors who have a GPA of 2.75 or higher may apply for this scholarship.

HARVARD

Honor students graduating from high school with family income less than $60,00 can attend Harvard with free tuition.  More information is available in the Guidance Office.

Miami University announced a new merit scholarship package  criteria for Oxford campus students.  Because of the level of interest as a result of this new information, they are extending their application deadline from February 1st to February 8th.  Students can find application instructions and submit the application online at http://www.muohio.edu/apply.

NASA SPACE CAMP

NASA Space Camp is for students in 6th through 9th grade who are the dependents of an active duty military parent or activated Guard or Reservist.  It is a camp that shows young men and women firsthand what it takes to be an astronaut.  Activities include simulated Space Shuttle missions, training simulators, rocket building and launches, scientific experiments & lectures.  The Bernard Curtis Brown II Memorial Space Camp scholarship is funded by the Military Child Education Coalition.  Pick up information in the Guidance Office.

The Suzi & Ken Chapman Scholarship is for seniors who are first generation college students who demonstate financial need.  The recipient will have a grade average of not less than a B.  Short application, resume & 3 letters of recommendation.  Stop by and pick one up today!

The FAFSA/TASFA priority deadline for the top 10% scholarship has changed.  The new date is March 1st.  If you are in the top 10%, make sure to apply for the FAFSA/TASFA before March 1st.

The Bell County Medical Society & Medical Alliance of Bell County is awarding scholarships for seniors pursuing a career in a medically-related field.  Stop by the Guidance Office to pick up an application.

SMU Summer Program

SMU is sponsoring a summer program for outstanding young women entering the eleventh grade.  The Girls Talk Back camp offers young women the opportunity to participate in three classes designed to enhance their written and oral communication abilities.  More information is available in the Guidance Office.

Heart of TX Mascot

The primary purpose of the Mascot is to promote, support, and represent the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo.  Interested high school females who are Sophomores, Juniors or Seniors may apply.  More information is available in the Guidance Office.  You could receive scholarship money!

Junior Service League

Are you a senior female who has  lots of community service time?  You may apply for the Junior Service League Scholarship.  Pick up an application in the Guidance Office.

Wednesday Review Club

The American Legion Auxiliary Texas Bluebonnet Girls State program is for young ladies who are Juniors in High School.  It is a nation wide program with sessions held in all 50 states each summer.  The duties, rights, and responsibilities of citizenship are taught through the actual participation in this “mythical 51st state.  More details are available in the Guidance Office or by going to www.girls-state.org.

Time Warner Cable Rising Hero Award seeks to honor seniors who are not only outstanding students but also leaders in their community.  Scholarships in the amount of $2,500 will be given.  Stop by the Guidance Office for details ASAP.  The deadline is quickly approaching!

Incredible Kid

Are you courageous, a positive influence, possibly dealing with adverse circumstances, caring or heroic?  Have your counselor/teacher nominate you as an Incredible Kid.  Forms are available in the Guidance Office.

Planning to pursue a degree in civil engineering?  Stop by the Guidance Office and pick up the Texas Dept. of Transportation, Conditional Grant Program Scholarship.
